Inspired by my momma who said, “God doesn’t make mistakes” and our good neighbor Andy (and Governor) Beshear who once said, "I believe in the Golden Rule that says 'we love our neighbor as ourself,' and finally by the Parable of the Good Samaritan which says, 'everyone is our neighbor'; I will lead with openness, transparency, and a commitment to build a stronger, more connected community. I want to have real conversations with my neighbors about their needs and dreams, and together, create the changes we deserve.
KEY ISSUES
Emergency Preparedness
In April of this year, my community in Bellepoint was severely impacted by flooding. What struck me most was the overwhelming willingness of neighbors to help. But many, including those in my neighborhood, could not access the support they desperately needed. Many returned to homes still damp and unsafe because they either were unaware of available assistance or had not been properly notified.
This gap in emergency response highlights a critical need for an improved local plan. As magistrate, I will make sure the county emergency plan takes care of everyone affected by a disaster, and that everyone is able to access the resources that are available. This plan would include funding designated local helpers to guide residents through relief processes, ensuring that no one falls through the cracks due to lack of information or access. Their responsibilities would include assessing the immediate and ongoing needs of residents, helping them navigate the complex web of available resources such as the Red Cross, FEMA, non-profit aid, and local support programs. Trained, dedicated individuals in the community would foster trust, improve communication, and create a more resilient response framework.
Child and Family Wellness
The closure of the downtown YMCA and KSU’s indoor pool in 2021 has left a significant void in Frankfort’s recreational and wellness resources for all ages. Supporting the proposed indoor aquatic and wellness center is a priority for me as magistrate, as it promises to bring jobs, boost local revenue, and fulfill a long-standing community need. This center would offer a safe, welcoming space for families to connect, promote health and wellness, and provide year-round access to water sports and recreational activities that have been missing from Frankfort for too long.
Housing
Affordable housing has long been a challenge in Frankfort, exacerbated by gentrification that has made many neighborhoods unaffordable or inaccessible. The scarcity of rental and public housing options has resulted in lengthy waitlists, forcing families with deep roots in our community to relocate to surrounding counties, especially after disasters like the April flood. This displacement disrupts children’s education, severs family ties, and creates transportation barriers that threaten employment stability. As magistrate, I will explore strategies to increase affordable housing availability within Frankfort and ensure existing community housing meets safety and quality standards. I believe in the power of beautification—not gentrification—to uplift public housing areas, providing residents with clean, safe, and dignified living environments that foster pride and stability.
Treatment and Recovery
Addiction is a disease that has touched my life deeply—I am the daughter, sister, and ex-wife of those who struggle with addition, and have cared for children affected by their parents’ struggles. I have witnessed the devastation addiction causes and the hope that recovery can bring. One critical barrier I have identified is the lack of a local facility for court-supervised visits between recovering parents and their children. Currently, families must travel to Shelbyville, which can have waitlists and creates additional obstacles to reunification. As magistrate, I am dedicated to pursuing the establishment of a supervised visitation center in Frankfort to support families in healing and rebuilding relationships. Family and community are foundational to recovery, and it is time we prioritize these connections to help individuals overcome addiction and restore their lives.
